Kevin Harvick beyond frustrated with 2019 | Sporting News

Kevin Harvick is just as frustrated about his performance as his fans are.

The 2014 Cup Series winner has yet to find “Victory Lane” this season and spoke about his struggles this weekend.

“I am beyond all the frustration,” he said, via NBC Sports. “To me, it is now a challenge just because I feel like this is very similar to 2014 and 2017.”

He continued: “Honestly, we just chose the wrong direction to start the year. Our cars weren’t where they needed to be and everyone realizes that as a company.”

Harvick won eight Cup races last year including three of the first four to start the year.

But this season he has yet to finish better than fourth in an event and has just three stage wins.

His team probably had the best car at NASCAR’s All-Star Race, but other than that week, he has been near the top in several events, but has never had the vehicle he needed to come away with a victory.

“We had some situations where we were in position to win some races and had some things go wrong, whether it was my team or (Clint Bowyer). In the end, our cars just weren’t fast enough,” he said. “I think everybody has kept their head down and are looking at it as a challenge now. “

He has been pleased with the way his cars have run in recent weeks though.

“Aside from the second half of the Charlotte race, I think over the last month or so the cars are coming the right direction,” he said.

Harvick comes into the race at Michigan International Speedway this week as the defending champion.

Perhaps that will be enough to push him to his first win of the year, but until he proves he can run with Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin and Chase Elliott consistently, it’s going to be hard to pick him to win.
