Breakdancing provisionally approved for 2024 Olympics | Sporting News

There could be a new Olympic sport for the 2024 games.

According to the Sports Business Journal, breakdancing has been provisionally approved for the 2024 Olympics.

However, breakdancing wouldn’t be the only addition.

Skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing were also approved and will debut in Tokyo next year.

However, breakdancing would have to wait until the games are set in Paris.

The recommendation came from the International Olympic Committee’s executive board in March. It said breakdancing, and the other sports approved, “offer the opportunity to connect with the young generation.”

There are already a number of competitive breakdancing competitions happening including the World BBoy Series – which was first established in 2013 and has seen teams from Russia, Greece, South Korea, Japan and the USA all win – and the longstanding International B-Boy Championships, which crowned its first winner in 1996.
