Juan Francisco Estrada set to return home for first defense of WBC super flyweight belt vs. Dewayne Beamon on Aug. 24 | Sporting News

The king of the super flyweights returns to his home country, as on Wednesday it was revealed that WBC titlist Juan Francisco Estrada defends his belt for the first time against Dewayne Beamon on Saturday, August 24 from Centro de Usos Múltiples in Hermosillo, Mexico. The fight airs on live and exclusively on DAZN, as part of Estrada’s debut bout on the streaming service after signing a multi-fight deal with Matchroom Boxing at the end of June.

For Estrada, the chance to come back to his stomping grounds for the first time since March 2017 and make his first title defense in front of his countrymen means a lot to him on every level.

“Thank God, my talent, effort, and discipline I’ve accomplished a lot of dreams that I had as a kid,” Estrada said in a press release. “Now my objective is to defend my title in Hermosillo and break an attendance record of 10,000 persons in CUM (Centro de Usos Múltiples) that exists since 1991 in a fight of Maromero Páez vs. “Cocas” Ramírez.

“We have a risky defense against the American, Dewayne Beamon, he is fast of hands and has a front style, but that is good to provide a great fight to all the fans in the world.”

Estrada (39-3 26 KOs), a former unified flyweight champion, became a two-division world champion and put himself among boxing’s elite in April when he outboxed Rungvisai in the early going and outlasted a late surge from the former champion to win by unanimous decision and avenge his narrow majority decision loss to the Thai star in February 2018.

Beamon (16-1-1, 11 KOs) is no stranger to fighting in enemy territory, as his last six contests have taken place south of the border, going 4-1-1 in the process. The 33-year-old plans on making the most out of his first crack at championship gold at the expense of one of the boxing’s top pound-for-pound fighters,

“I’m very excited for getting this world title shot against one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world,” Beamon said in the same release. “It will be a memorable fight, and I will surprise everyone on August 24 and accomplish my dream of being a world champion”.
